After triple checking my gear list and a last minute trip to Anaconda, my hiking pack was packed and I stood ready to leave for the greatest adventure of my life!! Given it was late autumn in Tasmania and only a few weeks before the winter walking season was to begin, there was a heavy emphasis on cold weather gear. If anyone is interested, here is the recommended gear list made by Tasmanian Walking Co.
The plan for today was to meet Will at the airport and fly down to Launceston. We would stay overnight at the Sebel and be picked up the following morning to begin our hike.

At The Airport
Met Will who travelled in from Geelong. We checked our bags in, had a healthy lunch (NOT) and waited to board the plane to Launceston.
Heading to Launceston

It was hard to put into words the anticipation and expectations I brought to this adventure. All I felt was nervous excitement. We also knew once we hit the trail, we would be cut off from our families and the world for six days. We were met at the airport by our old friend and colleague Karen who dropped us off at our hotel, the Sebel.
Youth Workers Reunion

23 years ago, Karen, Fee, Will and I graduated together from the United Theological College in Sydney with a Bachelor of Theology. We had trained as Specified Youth Workers and have continued in ministry since then. This was the first time we got together for a reunion. Sadly, we missed our fifth member, Nicole.
Interesting fact – Karen, Fee and Will each celebrated 30 years of paid ministry, most participating in the Order of St Stephens and all in paid youth ministry. Together, there were over 110 years of ministry experience… God is so good!
We ate at the Levee Food Co restaurant on the banks of South Esk River. We watched as dusk fell, the city darkened and the horizon became a stunning display of blue, purple, pink and orange and grey.
